Hide is a timber-built sauna cabin tucked into woodland on the Graythwaite Estate, on the west shore of Lake Windermere between Newby Bridge and Hawkshead. A panoramic window frames the lake and shifting weather, and the whole setup borrows its name and design cue from a wildlife hide.

The format is simple: book an hour and move between heat and water at your own pace. Warm up in the sauna, then cool off in the plunge pool, the outdoor shower, or the lake itself, cycling back into the heat as often as you like. There's no set routine or guided sequence — the hour belongs to whoever's booked it.

Shared sessions take up to six guests at a time and run at £18-ish per person (listed here around $22.78), with session packs of three or six visits for those who want to return regularly. Private hire is available for groups up to eight who want the cabin and lakeshore to themselves, and there's a founding membership offering four sessions a month plus a three-month minimum commitment — though that membership is closing to new sign-ups at the end of 2026.

It's open daily, with slightly earlier opening on Mondays, and everything runs on advance booking rather than walk-ins. The exact location on the estate, along with directions, is sent over once a session is booked, which fits the generally low-key, off-grid character of the place. No treatments, no spa menu beyond the sauna-and-lake cycle — just a cabin, some heat, and cold water close at hand.
