McMenamins Ruby's Spa at Edgefield

Ruby's Spa sits on the 74-acre McMenamins Edgefield estate in Troutdale, just outside Portland. It's a day spa with 38 treatments on the menu, including massage, manicures, pedicures, body treatments and make-up application, set in hardwood-floored rooms decorated with original McMenamins artwork.

The spa is adults-only, with a minimum age of 18. A day pass runs $50, and the signature Ruby's Spa Massage is priced at $145. Day passes include access to the outdoor, heated saltwater soaking pool, which otherwise is reserved for overnight hotel guests or those with a spa appointment. Couples treatments are available, and a robe and spa slippers are provided for the visit.

The spa is open daily from 10am to 6pm, and appointments are recommended in advance since walk-in availability is limited; a credit card is required to hold a booking. Arriving 15 minutes early is expected, since late arrivals are charged full price for shortened services. The cancellation policy requires 24 hours' notice to avoid a 50% charge, and no-shows are billed in full.

Products come from the Eminence Organic line out of Hungary, among others. Day lockers are provided for guests not staying at the hotel, and a swimsuit is needed to use the soaking pool. Jewelry and valuables are best left at home.
