The Spa at Chateau Elan Hunter Valley

The Spa at Chateau Elan is one of the bigger private spa facilities in the Hunter Valley, with 17 treatment rooms spread across the property near Pokolbin. It's open to day-pass guests and walk-ins as well as hotel guests, and membership is available for regulars.

The signature draw is the float tank, where body-temperature water loaded with Epsom salts is meant to create a weightless, sensory-deprivation effect; it's often paired with the infrared sauna or a massage. Elsewhere, the Hydrolounge & Deck has two outdoor mineral spas with mountain views, complimentary for anyone booking a treatment of 50 minutes or longer (sessions need to be reserved ahead). The Reflection Lounge is the quieter space where therapists run pre-treatment consultations.

With 17 treatments on the menu and facilities built for couples, this is a spa for settling in rather than popping in for a quick fix. Minimum age is 16, so it's an adults-focused environment. Robes, towels and slippers are supplied, but bring swimwear if you plan to use the mineral spas or Hydrolounge.

Hours run 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm Saturday, and 10am to 4pm Sunday. Booking ahead is recommended, particularly on weekends and during concert periods when the Hunter Valley gets busy, and arriving about 15 minutes early for check-in and consultation is standard advice from the spa itself.
