Hakone Yuryo is a large day-trip onsen facility built around the look of a traditional satoyama farmhouse village, set among the hills of Tōnosawa in Hakone. There's no overnight lodging here — it's strictly a soak-and-go spa, though you can easily spend a half-day or more.

The bathing side covers a lot of ground: a communal large bath with open views toward the surrounding hills, an open-air bath, and pot-shaped tubs, all fed by natural hot spring water. For more privacy, the facility has nineteen private rental bath rooms split across three room types, sized for different group counts — reportedly among the largest such offerings in the greater Tokyo area.

Food is treated as seriously as the bathing. The restaurant focuses on seasonal fish and irori (hearth-grilled) cooking, so plan on lingering over a meal as part of the visit rather than treating it as an afterthought. As of April 2025, the facility has also removed its tattoo restrictions, opening the baths to guests who previously might have been turned away elsewhere in Japan.

It's walk-in friendly with day passes available, and it's considered family friendly, making it a reasonable stop whether you're staying elsewhere in Hakone or just passing through for the day. Hours run 10:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 21:00 on weekends. Given the scale of the complex — big communal baths plus a wing of private rooms — it's worth building in time for both the soak and the meal rather than rushing through.
